Speaking about Women in the American Revoultion

For our 250th anniversary I’ve been speaking about the feisty, faithful women of the American Revoution. This includes interviews and in-person talks. Check out some of the interviews listed in my press kit. It’s fun to share about amazing women like Abigail Snelling, wife of Captain Josiah Snelling who built Fort Snelling. The fort included housing for her family. She taught Sunday school and even started a school for local native Americans. She helped forge the way for widows to receive pensions.
Kerenhappuch Turner rode horsebak 200 miles overnight to save her son’s leg. Wounded at the Battle of Guildford near Greensbor, NC, and doctors planned to amputate his leg. She prevented that and moved him into an abondoned cabin. She suspended a tub over his head, drilled a hole that allowed water to drip onto the wound. This prevented gangrene and saved his leg. He later became governor. Her method was used through the Civil War.
These are only two of the many women I cover in Stories of Faith and Courage from the Homefront. Their stories are great for young ladies to stufy as part of American History. I will be speaking on this topic at the Museum of the Bible this summer.
I so enjoyed researching the women. That meant going to many historic libraries, museums, and even the DAR library in D.C. While there I also researched some of my ancestors (7 fought in the American Revolution).
I hope you are celebrating our 250th anniversary and reading about the heroines and heroes of the war.
