Isaac's Well
Saturday, September 28, 2024 by Karen H Whiting
Unfaltering Joy!
Ancient wells in Israel at Neot Kedumim was a mainstay of the people/They needed water and dug holes to find it and then built the well around it.
Isaac in Genesis 26 built many wells. Time and again, enemies would come and dispute who the well belonged to. Isaac never fought, but moved on and dug another well. Finally he dug a well and no one argued over it. Note the words in the Bible:
Abandoning that one, Isaac moved on and dug another well. This time there was no dispute over it, so Isaac named the place Rehoboth (which means “open space”), for he said, “At last the Lord has created enough space for us to prosper in this land.” Genesis 26:22
He knew God brought him to an open space, a place for him and his people. The king came and made a peace covenant with Isaac because he realized that the Lord blessed Isaac. Isaac worshipped God at this place
Joy comes when we trust God and see what he does. Isaac did not need to worry about walking away from a well because he trusted God used those disputes to redirect him to another place. Isaac’s life served as a witness to others that God was withhim.
Like Isaac, my friend Pam Farrel is still joyful while undergoing cancer treatment. She shares about her journey and her lasting joy.
Rejoice even whn]enothers try to discourage you or stop your planes. Trust
- God knows best and has the lasting plan
- God redirects you to where he wants you to be
- God has plans to prosper you, so be patient and keep working.
Rejoice when God blesses you and your efforts.
If you want to read more stories of joy, check out my book Growing a Joyful Heart, co-authored with Pam Farrel, and my book Growing a Peaceful Heart. They both have accounts from the BIble, stories of people in history, and stores of contemporary people.
Rejoice as a mom!
