I’m excited to share with you a delightful recipe for Sally Lun bread, a traditional treat that has been cherished since colonial time
This bread is not only delicious but also a fun project to undertake, especially if you enjoy baking with yeast. Get a glimpse of it on youtube.
Understanding the Basics of Yeast
Yeast is a remarkable ingredient that brings life to our bread. When combined with warm water and sugar, it begins to activate, bubbling up and creating that wonderful rise we all love in bread. The key to a successful Sally Lun bread lies in understanding how yeast works and how to treat it right.
Let kids watch Activating the Yeast
To start, combine a quarter cup of warm water with a quarter cup of sugar and one package of yeast. Let this mixture sit for about ten minutes. You’ll see it bubbling – this is a sign that your yeast is alive and ready to work its magic!
The Ingredients You Will Need
To make Sally Lun bread, gather the following ingredients:
- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 package of active dry yeast
- ¼ cup sugar - ½ cup butter
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup hot milk
- 3 eggs (beaten)
To make:
Mix the yeast, ¼ cup sugar, and ¼ cup water in a small bowl. Let sit ten minutes.
In large bowl mix hot milk, butter, and salt.
When yeast is ready add to large bowl. dd eggs,
Beat in flour slowly.
Cover bowl with a clean kitchen towl. Let rise 30-60 minutes until doubled.
Pour into greased bowl and let rise 30 minutes.
Bake at 350 for 50 minutes or until goldne brown.
